Who are we?

We are a fraternal organization of Roman Catholic men, women, and children dedicated to serving our God, our Church, our communities and Our Noble Order.

Knights of Peter Claver, Ladies Auxiliary, Junior Knights and Junior Daughters are a Catholic lay organization with national headquarters in New Orleans. This spiritual and social organization has among its objectives to be supporters of the church, to promote civic improvements, to encourage participation in the church, to award scholarships, to develop youth, to provide social and intellectual fellowships for its members, etc.

The Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver is an organization filled with limitless opportunities for Black Catholics and other Catholics to work for their parish. Bishops, priests and laity have given Claverism such strong support through the years that it now boasts of many flourishing subordinate units of the Catholic men, women and family members throughout the United States. Members range from ages seven through eighty and above.

  • Members receive spiritual and social benefits from participation in the organization. Activities include: Uniformed participation in religious ceremonies as well as educational, recreational and athletic nature events, such as dances, picnics, banquets, athletic events, workshops, fund-raising projects and other activities.
  • Members also get to improve their knowledge of the organization by participation in the State, District, and National Meetings which offer opportunities of fraternity, cultural improvement, and broadening local and national acquaintance with fellow Catholics.

Our Organization is divided into four (4) Districts (incorporating several states) and two (2) individual States ( Louisiana and Texas).

Colorado Council & Court Deacon Charles H. Bright

Our Colorado Council and Court Deacon Charles H. Bright #261 was founded in 1985. The Denver divisions are the only ones in Colorado and belong to the Central States District. Each District/State is headed by a Deputy for the Knights’ division and for the Ladies’ division. Court #261 is proud to acknowledge that the District Deputy of Central States, Loretta Richardson, is a member of their Court.

Council & Court #261 endeavor to fulfill the goals of the Order by implementing the program objectives. Programs objectives include:

  • To be staunch supporter to the local pastor of the parish and to the bishop of the diocese. To participate collectively in various parish and community activities.
  • To promote civic improvements. To encourage Lay Apostolic and Catholic action.
  • To make contributions to worthwhile causes.
  • To award scholarships
  • To foster recreational assemblies and facilities
  • To provide social and intellectual fellowship for its members as well as proper guidance and participation in the ever changing structure of our social and economic life, through this Catholic lay organization.

Each year, the Deacon Charles Bright Council and Court organizes the following activities: Mardi Gras Ball, Lenten fish fries, Casino trips and Scholarship for College students reception.
